Abstract
Objectives 1.1) Measure and confirm the performance of commercial catalysts for conversion of various synthesis gas ("syngas") surrogate mixtures to methanol. 1.2) Determine the impact of H2/CO ratio (or related stoichiometry number, S), trace impurities, and nitrogen content of the syngas mixture on the methanol yield and selectivity. 1.3) Determine the impact on other reactor conditions (temperature, pressure, space velocity) on the methanol yield and selectivity. 1.4) Explore alternative catalyst particle sizes, bed packing configurations and catalyst supports; study catalyst lifetime and deactivation.
