Episode Description

Listen to Dr. Tyler Fisher tell stories about his academic trajectory from the beginning of his undergraduate experience and how he decided what to major in. You’ll hear about some inspiring teachers who helped him discover and follow his academic interests. He also shares how impactful a study abroad experience in Spain and France, funded through a scholarship, was for his decision to further pursue Spanish language study and translation. After graduating with an English major from the UCF Honor’s College in fall 2002 and a Spanish Honors in the Major in spring 2003, Dr. Fisher attended Oxford University as UCF’s first Rhodes Scholar. There, he completed an MPhil in European Literature with a Spanish focus, a DPhil in Medieval and Modern Languages, and a Postdoc. Hear Dr. Fisher share how he navigated this rigorous academic experience with the help of mentorship, how he ended up staying in England for 15 year, and how he applies these experiences to his work here as UCF faculty.
