Description
In this episode, you’ll hear Nicky Gauthier talk about her journey from Port-au-Prince, Haiti to New York, Connecticut, and finally Florida. Nicky is an associate instructor in French and Haitian Creole. Hear her talk about the importance of these languages, share memorable stories of her former students, and provide some resources for our listeners who are curious about these languages. For example, did you know that you could join a free Haitian Creole singing session to explore the language? Did you know that the French and Haitian Creole language groups offer conversation hours you can join if you want to explore these languages?
In our conversation, we talk about the value of Haitian Creole across health professions and in education. Here is the link referenced about to the U.S. Department of Education Data Story which shares the home languages spoken by English learners nationwide: https://www2.ed.gov/datastory/el-characteristics/index.html
