Description
Poisonous. Gelsemium and its alkaloids produce not only paralysis of sensibility, but also of motility. Contra-indicated where cardiac action is weak; useful whenever exaltation of function exists in sensory or motor nerves. Recommended in neuralgia, especially of the trigeminus, in ovarian neuralgia, in dysmenorrhea, after-pains, etc. -- from Parke, Davis & Co. Organic Materia Medica.
