Abstract
The invention is an extended tuning range frequency swept laser, which can be applied to either a fiber ring cavity or a linear cavity configuration. However, in this description, we will focus on a fiber ring cavity configuration which uses a fiber couple semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as a gain medium and a tunable filter to scan an output frequency through the bandwidth of the SOA.
