Abstract
The results of a study undertaken among 209 Travel and Tourism enterprises and 17 National Tourist Offices in Latin America, indicate a shortage of qualified human resources, and deficiencies in foreign languages, computers and marketing skills. Participants expressed the opinion that there were not enough external tourism education and training institutions in their respective countries and that most of the existing ones were not of good quality. They also indicated that the travel and tourism industry did not command sufficient respect and support from their governments and political institutions.
