Title

Management Accounting And Management Information Systems.

Abstract

Management Accounting and Management Information Systems are significantly interrelated within any organization, yet little recognition has been given to this overlap and/or synergism that can occur for effective and efficient management. In this paper, the parallels between the Controllership Function-Management Accounting- and the Management Information System are compared and contrasted. For an extended period of time, it appears that the Information Systems Management and the Controllership Management of the firm have operated separately rather than synergistically. This paper argues for a synergism to occur; indeed, that it is mandatory for successful management of the firm. In fact, when properly integrated the function - the discipline - is more appropriately called 'Management Accounting Information Systems'.
