Title
Picture Programming: A Graphical Programming Environment.
Abstract
We have created a 'text-free' graphics programming language and housed it in a working environment named Picture Programming. Programs are composed entirely of graphical icons which represent visible actions, actors, and control commands. Picture Programming incorporates innovative ideas about the integration of editing and execution. Program editing results in immediate modification of the program's graphical output, which is always visible. Each element of a program, and the entire program, can be reverse executed. The system is being used to teach programming and problem solving skills to young children as well as to learning-disabled students. It is also being used as an introduction to computing for adults.
