Title
Three Level Block Truncation Coding
Abstract
A block truncation coding (BTC) method employing a three-level image coding technique, is presented and studied. The method is applied to actual images and compared with other BTC techniques in terms of mean squared error (MSE), compression ratio, and processing time. This comparison is based on a 4 × 4 block size with pixel values ranging from 0-255 (8 b/pixel). The method compares favorably with other BTC image coding methods in terms of MSE and speed of execution, but it has a lower compression ratio.
