Title
Central Processor Scheduling Using I/O Behaviour Models
Abstract
An I/O based approach for task scheduling on the central processing unit (CPU) of computer systems is presented. Two queuing network models are analysed and scheduling policies to optimize or improve CPU utilization are derived. Since operating systems can easily keep track of the I/O activities of tasks, the approach presented in this paper can easily be incorporated into system schedulers without much overhead. The effectiveness and ease of implementation of this approach make it particularly appealing to many practical applications and real-time systems. © 1990 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
