Computer-Based Instruction For The Fire Services
Abstract
Firefighters and paramedics in the fire service offer and excellent audience for computer-based instruction (CBI). Hence, a series of CBI packages is being developed for testing with major fire department in the Central Florida area. The programs described are: 1) Spanish public safety, 2) positive pressure ventilation, 3) fire command operation, 4) fire department lessons learned, and 5) situational awareness training system. The project has two areas of emphasis: 1) to develop demonstration courseware, and 2) to evaluate the more promising demonstrations. The emphasis is on developing affordable computer-based instructional material; any of the courseware being developed can be delivered on standard multimedia PCs.
