Dynamic Analysis Of Axisymmetric Foundations On A Poroelastic Stratum Using Bem

Abstract

A dynamic poroelastic boundary element method (BEM) is presented for the analysis of circular foundations subjected to time-harmonic vertical excitations. An axisymmetric formulation is developed which offers further reduction in dimensionality of the problem. The BEM algorithm is validated via comparisons with an analytical solution for the dynamic response of a soil column under traction loading, and is then utilized to study the vertical dynamic compliance of a shallow circular foundation.
