Title
Analysis Of Damped And Undamped Systems Using Dft
Abstract
Although the frequency domain analysis using the standard Discrete Fourier Transform and the Fast Fourier Transform is a well established method in structural dynamics, it has not been possible to apply it for undamped systems where the free vibration terms never decay. This is apparently due to the fact that the differences between the Discrete and the Continuous Fourier Transforms have not been accounted for. This paper clarifies the differences and suggests how to account for them in ways commonly known in digital signal processing.
