Title

Looping Behavior And Strength Of Prestressed Arches

Abstract

Buckling of prestressed elastica arches and effects of loading conditions on the stability and strength of arches have been studied. A prestressed arch is made by elastically buckling an initially flat thin strut into a curved shape, and then, attaching it to the supports. A modified Riks-Wempner method is incorporated in a corotational finite element formulation to effectively trace the snap-through, snap-back, and looping paths of arches.
