Title

Experimental investigation of cumulative seismic damage in concrete bridge piers

Abstract

A systematic study of cumulative damage of seismically detailed reinforced concrete bridge piers was conducted using a sequence of constant-amplitude and random reverse cyclic loads. The displacement histories used in the random phase of testing represent analytically predicted displacement response of the pier under actual seismic ground motions. Each specimen is subjected to a number of random displacements while the ground motions generate the displacement histories encompassing both minor earthquakes and maximum credible events with damaging frequency content. Damage response quantities are monitored along with related visual observations.
