An efficient technique for real-time simulation of stiff systems using PC-MATLAB

Abstract

This paper presents an efficient numerical integration method with constant coefficients that are matrices rather than the usual scalars. Methods of this type perform the simulation for all states of the system simultaneously while allowing the integration stepsize to be chosen independently of the eigenvalues of the system using pole placement technique. The approach is particularly useful in real-time simulations of stiff systems using PC-MATLAB. A computer simulation is utilized to support the proposed technique.
