Title
Modulational instability of a strip input beam and multisoliton generation in a quadratic medium
Abstract
The modulational instability (MI) for type I second harmonic generation (SHG) of a quasi-one-dimensional wave (Q1D) was studied. The Q1D case was modeled with an input field profile along the short dimension appropriate to a quadratic soliton, and a plane wave modulated by a low amplitude periodic perturbation in the other transverse dimension. The beams were propagated numerically, under the influence of the SHG coupled mode equations that include diffraction. Over short distances, the behavior was similar to saturable Kerr media. The amplitude of the perturbation increased and the wave broke up into a periodic structure maxima.
