Title
Field measurement of time-dependent losses in prestressed concrete bridges
Abstract
The primary objective in this project is to determine the time-dependent losses in prestressed concrete bridges. In this paper, State-of-the-art technology used in the bridge instrumentation and bridge monitoring is emphasized. The Westbound Gandy Bridge in Tampa, Florida, which is currently under construction, is instrumented for continuous measurement of strain in the concrete. Four modified AASHTO Type VI girders, made up of two exterior girders and two interior girders located on two adjacent spans of the bridge, are instrumented with vibrating wire strain gauges. The time-dependent prestress losses obtained from the field measurements are compared with empirically determined code values, and reported in this paper.
