Title
Resource sharing: Outsourcing and technical services
Abstract
As the pace of change in libraries accelerates, the management techniques of reengineering and outsourcing are being considered in libraries. This article provides a brief overview of reengineering and outsourcing and discusses the history of outsourcing of technical services functions. Outsourcing technical services is not new, dating back to the late nineteenth century. As libraries compete for limited resources, outsourcing will continue to have an important role. Visionary and innovative approaches to providing services are critical for the future of technical services operations. © 1998 by The Haworth Press, Inc. All rights reserved.
