Title

Distributed Flexibility Models For Nonlinear Analysis Of Rc Structures

Abstract

The application of distributed flexibility member models in inelastic analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structural systems is examined. While the utilization of flexibility-based formulations is desirable in considering inelastic action at the plastic hinge zones of RC members, its application in practical analysis is not straightforward. A stiffness matrix developed from distributed flexibility concepts sometimes exhibits sudden changes in stiffness characteristics that is not consistent with expected behavior at a member cross-section. Two probable approaches to stiffness formulation using distributed flexibility are explored in this study with a view to assessing their suitability in nonlinear analysis of RC structures.
