Title
Hazardous Waste Minimization Through The Development Of A Model Household Battery Collection And Disposal System For Local Governments
Abstract
The objective of this project is to collect and analyze information and design a model household battery collection and disposal system that can be used nationally to provide recycling information and collection method options for all local governments. The proposed model will include the following: 1) development of management methods for the collection, handling, storage and marketing of HH batteries; and 2) identification of further options or research needs in this area. The following are components of the model: 1. A comprehensive report about available and developing HH battery recycling markets, including recycling costs and firms that will accept HH batteries. 2. A survey of Florida counties to explore existing programs and collection methods which may be used in the development of the model. 3. An analysis and review of pending and existing state HH battery legislation. 4. Recommendations for state and local legislation related to the collection and disposal of HH batteries, potential collection assistance funding, and rules to encourage source reduction and recycling.
