Title
Dispersion Of Pristine Carbon Nanotubes Using Conjugated Block Copolymers
Abstract
A method for dispersing both single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) by using conjugated block copolymers was discussed. A conjugated block copolymer, poly(3-hexythiophene)-b-polystyrene (P3HT-b-PS), was synthesized and strongly attached to CNT walls through a strong and stable molecular interaction, which was studied by several spectroscopic techniques including fluorescence spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. It was found that because of the strong interaction between conjugated block copolymer with CNTs, the dispersed CNT solution can be purified, dried, and easily re-dispersed back to solution. The results show that by introducing different solubilizing polymer into the block copolymer, the CNTs can be made with tailored solubility in organic or aqueous solutions, and good miscibility with a wide range of polymer matrices.
