Abstract
We demonstrate a new class of band-pass frequency selective surface (FSS) that takes advantage of non-resonant constituting elements with sub-wavelength dimensions and periodicities (<<λ). This is in sharp contrast with traditional FSSs, where the building blocks usually consist of periodic arrays of resonant dipole and slot structures with dimensions and periodicities that are in the order of half a wavelength (λ/2). The sub-wavelength nature of the constituting elements of the proposed miniaturizedelement frequency selective surface (MEFSS) combined with its polarization independent design result in a structure with a reduced sensitivity to the angle of incidence for both TE and TM polarizations. © 2008 IEEE.
