Title
Issues Related To Red-Light Camera Enforcement Systems
Abstract
The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) 2008 Technical Conference and Exhibit in Miami from March 31-April 2, 2008, held in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), were grouped into four tracks. The event features a special session entitled "Photo Enforcement-A Snapshot" which was part of the Human Behavior/Multi-Modalism track. Included in the forum's topics are the numerous fatal motor vehicle crashes caused by red-light-running violations. In order to reduce the occurrences of these violations, red-light camera enforcement systems have been deployed in communities. This system has many labels such as photo-red enforcement and automated enforcement. It consists of a camera that detects a vehicle running the red light and takes a photograph of the license plate of the violating vehicle. This idea has started to emerge as a potential cost-effect tool caused by capability of monitoring the intersection 24 hours per day at reduced manpower.
