Title
Prototyping Processes That Affect Organizational Creativity
Abstract
This chapter explores the role that prototyping processes play in the development of creative work proposals. I begin by presenting a process approach to understanding creativity that emphasizes the importance of individual and collective thought experiments as a means of generating novel proposals and assessing their potential value. I then describe how prototypes serve as a visualization media capable of promoting the quality and quantity of thought experiment trials. Specifically, designing and sharing prototypes is a visualization strategy that can promote analogical reasoning and effectuation, and serve as a repository where knowledge from diverse contributors can be integrated into creative solutions. I conclude by speculating how differences in prototyping media characteristics may affect organizational creativity.
