Enhanced Birefringence Of Inhomogeneous Slabs
Abstract
We show that the presence of an interface changes the local field distributions in inhomogeneous materials. The loss of field symmetry leads to a significant surface-induced birefringence of an inhomogeneous medium. © 2009 Optical Society of America.
