Title
Spatially Coherent Discrete Wavelet Transform - Accessing The Localization Property For Data Compression
Abstract
The Recursive Merger Filter (RMF) discrete wavelet transform (DWT) algorithm, that organizes intermediate coefficients with respect to both space and frequency, is presented. Since the RMF has a spatial coherence property, it is ideal for close coupling with wavelet coding algorithms, and enables fine grained as opposed to monolithic encoding. It is demonstrated how the RMF can be applied to the Embedded Zerotree Wavelet (EZW) and Wavelet based Hierarchical Vector Quantization (WHVQ) algorithms.
