Abstract
Organizations have changed dramatically over the last 2 decades as the pace of change has increased and the world has grown smaller. Computer technology penetrates all facets of the workplace. Connectivity afforded by the Internet provides access to information, suppliers, and customers for firms large and small worldwide. Organizations compete globally in an often virtual and multicultural world. The demands created by these changes have pressured organizations to build their human capitalbroad, deep, and flexible knowledge and skills-to survive and thrive in this rapidly changing world.
