Title
66.1: High Birefringence And Negative Dielectric Anisotropy Liquid Crystal Mixtures For Vertical Alignment Applications
Abstract
In this paper we describe the physical properties of some lateral difluoro-terphenyl compounds and mixtures. Such mixtures exhibit a high birefringence (Δn~0.24) in the visible spectral range while remaining a relatively low rotational viscosity. When doped in a commercial mixture, it enhances the mixture’s birefringence while causing almost no penalty to the rotational viscosity. These mixtures are particularly attractive for thin cell VA LCDs to achieve fast response time.
