Title
Youth Energy Solutions (Yes) Summit
Abstract
The Youth Energy Solutions (YES) Program is a collaborative effort between Progress Energy, the Florida Solar Energy Center and various schools in central Florida. The purpose of the program is to challenge students to visualize a sustainable future and to explore aspects of their vision as it relates to energy and the environment. The program involves several important components: professional development for teachers, lessons using hands on materials that can be integrated into the existing curriculum and a culminating event - the Youth Energy Solutions (YES) Summit. This paper will explore the various components of the program in detail, share the lessons learned and offer suggestions for involving students beyond the borders of Florida.
