Title
Effect Of Particle Shape On Water-Free Mica Er Fluids
Abstract
The yield stresses of the water-free mica ER fluid for different particle sizes and concentrations are investigated. For a certain particle size, there is an optimum concentration for maximum yield stress. We found that the larger the particle size, the smaller the optimum concentration. These new phenomena stem from the high shape anisotropy of the mica particle. A model based on electrical dipole interaction can qualitatively explain these phenomena.
