Title
Flexible Beamforming For Optically Controlled Phased Array Antennas
Keywords

Abstract
Unique photonic beamformer and remoting head for phased array antennas in broadcast mode wireless communications is proposed that enables flexible antenna array upgrades via software and flexible front-head attachments. This array controller capability leads to user defined changes in number of antenna elements, antenna aperture shape, antenna aperture size and antenna carrier frequency. Experimental proof-of-concept flexible beamforming results are described that generate the desired set of phase shifted radio frequency signals. The flexible beamformer is particularly suited for generating multiple broadcast antenna beams. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
