Title
Identification Of Nitrate Ester Explosives By Electrospray- And Apci-Lc/Ms/Ms
Abstract
The LC/MS/MS with electrospray and APCI were used for the identification of three nitrate ester explosives including, pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), nitroglycerin (NG) and ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN). The analysis of these explosives by a single method was difficult because they had different vapor pressures, ranging from 1.4×10 -8 to 7×10 -2 torr. A Thermo-Finnigan LCQ DUO LC/MS/MS system was used and the HPLC consisted of a Restek, Allure C18 column, with methanol-water (70:30) as mobile phases in the isocratic mode. The results show that the nitrate ester explosives can be identified in both ionization modes but better sensitivity is obtained in the ESI mode.
