Title
Development Study Of A Debris Layer For The Virtual Range Simulation Model
Keywords
Debris dispersion; Debris fragmentation; Expectation of casualties
Abstract
The methodology leading to the development and analysis of a Geographical Information System layer (GIS), for material debris dispersion, in the event of an explosion of a launch vehicle - the space shuttle in this case - as well as some of the findings resulting from this study are discussed. The layer, which is being developed based on an in-flight simulated explosion of the vehicle, will be incorporated in the Virtual Range simulation model, to determine the population at risk and the expectation of casualties (Ec) resulting from debris fragmentation following a launch vehicle explosion.
