Title

A Framework For It Project Selection Using A Real Option Scorecard Approach: The Utility Computing Case

Abstract

The classical valuation and project selection methodologies based on the net present value (NPV) or multi-criteria decision models such as the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) have many shortcomings when applied to utility computing. The goal of this research is to present a new framework to better analyze the business value and strategic impact of IT projects. The framework uses an analytical network process (ANP) to combine and extend the real option valuation methodology with balanced scorecard strategy maps, helping managers to optimize multi-criteria decisions regarding IT project selection and implementation, especially for projects based on the utility computing paradigm.
