Title
Statistical Similarity And The Physical Significance Of Complete Spatial Coherence And Complete Polarization Of Random Electromagnetic Beams
Keywords
Coherence; Statistical optics
Abstract
We introduce the concept of statistical similarity between two statistically stationary random processes in a rigorous way and show that complete correlation between the processes implies statistical similarity and vice versa. We then apply the theorem to stochastic electromagnetic beams and show that it elucidates the physical meaning of complete coherence and complete polarization. © 2004 Elsevier B.V.
