Title
A Novel Monte Carlo Noise Reduction Operator
Abstract
A unified Monte Carlo noise reduction approach using bilateral filtering is introduced. The strength of the approach lies in its simplicity, robustness, and efficiency. It reduces outliers and interpixel incoherence in only two passes. The method can be easily implemented on a parallel machine or using a GPU. The method is implemented on an ATI Radeon 9700 graphics card which executes the denoising of a 512 × 512 image in a fraction of a second.
