Keywords

Abstract
This paper discusses physician's opinion of biomodels as an effective tool for the design and optimization of medical devices and in the evaluation of new therapeutic techniques. Physical replicas (n=17) were manufactured from images of Cardiovascular CV structures of patients with a variety of malformations, to use them to asses the physicians responses. A survey/interview technique was used to perform the assessment. In such an application the researcher has to decide on, the questioner goals, population of interest, select a sample, decide on surveying technique, design a questioner that fits the application, and rehearse questioner. A total of 19 physicians and fellows in the pediatric cardiology department at Texas Children Hospital, were surveyed. Physicians rated the biomodels as very useful to useful in surgery planning, rehearsal, use in the catheterization laboratory, communication and as a teaching aid. Approximately 45% of experts interviewed perceive the models as at least a very useful tool. The paper also discusses recommendations on interviewing/surveying techniques related to the field of Medical RP.
