Title

Particulate Matter At Two Large North American Airports

Keywords

Abstract

Particulate matter (PM) samples were taken at several locations around two large North American Airports in late 2005. The Particulate matter samples were analyzed gravimetrically and via X-Ray Fluorescence to determine the amount and make up of particulate matter emissions at these airports. The purpose of this study was to support PM testing by providing ambient sampling of CO2 and PM2.5. When possible additional weather information was collected and utilized to support upwind and downwind PM measurements. The particulate and elemental quantities along with meteorology enabled a mass balance around upwind and downwind locations to determine airport contributions to particulate matter. The particulate matter contributions from both airports were lower than expected.
