Title
Probability Density Function Of A Passive Scalar Gradient
Abstract
Fractal and multi-fractal models are used to derive the probability density function (PDF) for the gradient of a passive scalar diffusing in a random velocity field. Although the PDF is symmetrical, it is non-Gaussian and compares reasonably well with the measured PDF. In the process, we also provide a unified systematic framework to derive the appropriate scalar microscales for the following regimes: inertial-diffusive range; viscous-convective range; viscous-diffusive range.
