Title
Spatial Modulation Instability In Periodically Patterned Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
Abstract
We theoretically investigate the spatial modulation instability (MI) properties of an electrically pumped, periodically patterned semiconductor optical amplifier. The MI spatial period is found to be related to the widths of the stable solitons supported by this device. Specific conditions for the observation of MI in such dissipative structures are given in terms of relevant examples. © 2006 Optical Society of America.
