Title
Wide-View And Fast-Response Lcds Using Crossed Fringe Field Switching Effect
Keywords
Crossed electric fields; Fast response time; Liquid crystal display
Abstract
The electro-optic effect of a crossed fringe field switching mode (CFFS) liquid crystal display (LCD) is studied. Fast response time is achieved by forming fringing field electrodes on both top and bottom substrates. While the bottom fringe field is used to switch on the LC directors, the top fringe field is used to assist the LC decay process. As a result, the response time at different gray-to-gray level transitions is improved by ∼2X. This CFFS mode also preserves the wide-view characteristics as the conventional FFS mode. © 2008 SID.
