Abstract
This paper describes the basic design characteristics of the "Mobile Academic Research Support (MARS) Project" which has been designed for researchers to improve and support their research methods. The MARS project is based on the mobile performance support system (MPSS) model which meets the needs of researchers by providing information, guidance and decision support capability. In other words, MPSS is a system that can rapidly provide access to detailed procedures, definitions, examples, case studies, references and then guide the user by showing the processes step by step. MPSS holds promise in accomplishing complex tasks for educational and training purposes and provides mobile access to support learning and performance. Furthermore, the MARS design model combines course, online resources, advisor, help, communication and my process tools. It provides access to the information through variety of mobile devices such as i-Phone, Nokia, g-Phone, etc. The MARS system will be used in the USA and Turkey in both English and Turkish. © Common Ground, Nilgun Ozdamar Keskin, David Metcalf, All Rights Reserved.
