Title
Observation Of Parity-Time Symmetry In Optical Systems
Abstract
A study was conducted to report observation of parity-time (PT) symmetry in an optical coupled system. These optical potentials were through a judicious inclusion of index guiding and gain or loss regions. It was possible to design a PT-symmetric system where the refractive index profile needed to be an even function of position x, while the gain or loss distribution needed to be odd, given that the complex refractive index distribution n(x)=nR(x) +inI(x) played the role of an optical potential. Two Ti in-diffused parallel waveguide channels were used in Fe-doped LiNbO3 to conduct the investigations. One of the channels was optically pumped from the top via photorefractive two-wave mixing to provide the necessary gain for the guided light, while the neighboring arm experienced loss.
