Title
Damage Detection Of A 4-Span Bridge Specimen Using Fiber Bragg Grating (Fbg) Sensors
Abstract
From multiple points of view, Fiber Optic Sensors are one of the most desirable types of sensors among the currently available sensors. Distributed sensing capability, durabili-ty, stability, low sensitivity to external effects and applicability in long-term health assessment of civil infrastructure provide advantages for FBG in civil applications. The aim of this study is to investigate and evaluate the capability of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) type strain sensors for damage detection in bridge type structures under operational loads. A 4 span bridge model, in-cluding two main girders, is equipped with FBGs sensors on both girders. A strain correlation based damage detection method was employed for detecting and locating the damage using op-erational strain data. Results show that applied damage can successfully be detected and located using FBG sensors and proposed data analysis methodology.
