Abstract
This chapter introduces the control of the tandem cold metal rolling process. The objectives of the book are presented, with an overview of some of the drawbacks encountered in conventional and advanced systems for control of this process, and how what is presented in the following chapters can overcome them. A brief historical background is given, followed by a short overview of the tandem cold rolling process.
