Abstract
Human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) explore the ways in which human beings interact with the technologies they create. Traditionally, HF/E has been concerned with improving efficiency and safety in industrial and manufacturing production. Across the world, these traditional ergonomic concerns with physical work are still very much in evidence. However, much of the present focus of HF/E is on issues related to computer-mediated work and complex systems design. In addition to fashioning our interaction with technology, the future of HF/E may well be directed to creating it. The ultimate goal of HF/E is to help each individual person realize his or her full potential.
