Title
Tunable Ring-Loaded Patch Element For Beam-Steerable Reflectarray Applications
Keywords

Abstract
In this paper, a tunable multi-resonant element designed by coupling a ring element to a microstrip patch antenna is presented. By loading the antenna element with a variable Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) capacitor, tunability is realized. To showcase its enhanced performance, compared to single resonant elements, a reference patch and a ring are also simulated. The ring-loaded patch element is shown to have a significantly higher phase range and enhanced bandwidth compared to the reference elements. The presented unit cell finds applications where higher phase ranges and compact form-factor are desired for reflectarray design.
