Exemplars Can Affect Readers’ Judgment About News Story
Abstract
This study found that the use of exemplars, such as a photograph, to illustrate a story about hunger needs in Central Florida can lead to an inaccurate understanding of the facts. However, the use of a base-rate infographic, such as a pie chart, reduced some of the misperception.
