Abstract
A linearly polarized antenna with conical beam is designed to operate in the unlicensed band of 60 GHz. The antenna is fed with substrate integrated waveguide and fabricated using the printed-circuit-board and plated-through hole-technologies. In order to generate a conical beam, two TM modes are excited within the cavity using two slots. Simulation results reveal that the proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 12.9%, covers the frequency range of 56.8 to 64.6 GHz, and realizes a gain around 5dBi. The proposed antenna can be used for short-range wireless communications.
